Signing up for Gold Silver Ledger takes a couple of minutes. You'll pick a plan, create your login, verify your email, and add a payment method through Stripe.
If you choose monthly billing, your 14-day free trial starts the moment your account is created — no charge until day 15. If you choose annual billing, you're charged immediately at signup; there's no trial on annual plans.
If you've already signed up, jump to Recording your first transaction. If something went wrong mid-signup, the troubleshooting section at the bottom covers the usual culprits.
What you'll need
Two things, both quick:
An email address you can check (we'll send a verification link there).
A payment method — credit card, debit card, or whatever else Stripe accepts in your country. On monthly billing, you won't be charged for 14 days — Stripe captures the method up front so billing can start cleanly when the trial ends. On annual billing, the first year is charged at signup with no trial period.
That's it. No address, no phone number, no security questions about your first pet.
The signup flow, step by step
1. Pick a plan
Start at goldsilverledger.com and click Start your free trial. You'll land on the plan selection screen with three options: Starter, Pro, and Premium, each with a monthly and an annual billing option.
A few things to know before you pick:
Monthly billing includes a 14-day free trial. No charge until day 15.
Annual billing does not include a trial — you're charged for the first year immediately at signup, in exchange for a lower effective price.
Want to test the app first but commit annually later? Sign up on monthly, use the 14-day trial, then switch to annual after the first month's bill from the Stripe Billing Portal.
You can change plans (Starter ↔ Pro ↔ Premium) any time without losing data.
If you're not sure which plan you want, Starter on monthly is a fine place to start. See The three plans compared: Starter, Pro, Premium, for the full feature matrix.
2. Create your login
After picking a plan, you'll be asked to set up your account:
Email address: This is also your login.
Password: At least 8 characters. Use a password manager if you're not already.
3. Verify your email
Check your inbox for a message from us with a verification link. Click it to confirm the address. The link is valid for 24 hours.
Didn't arrive in a couple of minutes? See I'm not receiving the verification email.
4. Add your payment method
You'll be handed off to Stripe Checkout to enter your card details. This is Stripe's hosted form, not ours — Gold Silver Ledger never sees or stores your card information. We only keep a reference ID so we can match you to your subscription.
Once you submit, Stripe creates your subscription with a 14-day trial. You'll see a confirmation, then get bounced back to the app.
5. Sign in and meet your dashboard
After verification, sign in at goldsilverledger.com/auth/sign-in, or click the Log In button on the Gold Silver Ledger website. The first time you log in, we automatically:
Create your profile.
Create a default portfolio called "My Portfolio" (you can rename it later).
Set USD as your display currency and troy oz as your weight unit (both adjustable in Settings).
You'll land on an empty dashboard. From here, the fastest way to make the app feel real is Recording your first transaction.
What's actually stored
A reasonable thing to ask, especially for an app that's going to know about your bullion stack:
Email and a hashed password: For sign-in.
A Stripe customer ID: A reference number, nothing else. No card data, no billing address, nothing Stripe knows that we also keep.
Your display preferences: Currency and weight unit.
What we don't store: your card number, your home address, your phone number, your name (unless you choose to add one), or any of the dozens of other fields a typical SaaS asks for.
There's no field for it because there's no reason for us to have it.
Common signup issues
A short list of things that occasionally go sideways and how to fix them.
"My verification email never arrived"
Check your spam folder first. If it's not there, request a new one from the verify page or see I'm not receiving the verification email. The most common culprits are over-aggressive corporate email filters and typos in the address.
"Stripe rejected my card"
Stripe's the source of truth here. Some issuers reject the first $0 trial authorization on a new card; in that case, the simplest fix is to call your card issuer or try a different card. See Stripe checkout failed for the full list.
"I picked the wrong plan"
Not a problem. Change plans any time during the trial from Settings → Subscription, which opens the Stripe Billing Portal. See Upgrading your subscription or Downgrading your subscription.
"I want to cancel before I'm charged"
Also not a problem. Cancelling your subscription walks through how — and you have the full 14 days to decide.
Where to go next
Starting your 14-day free trial: What's included, what happens on day 15, how to cancel before billing.
A tour of your dashboard: Where everything lives in the nav.
Recording your first transaction: Populate your dashboard in five minutes.
Setting your display currency: Change the default if USD isn't your home currency.
